DIAGNOSIS A foreign object is likely trapped between the stainless steel wash plate (at the bottom of the tub) and the outer plastic basket. Coins, bra wires, and buttons are common.
FIX Visually inspect the gap around the wash plate. Tilt the tub back to look underneath. Remove any visible debris. Run the TUB CLEAN cycle with hot water and 2 cups of white vinegar (no bleach) to help dislodge small items. Check the drain pump filter afterward.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The noise may be from a worn drive coupler or motor bearings. Listen closely. A rhythmic “thump-thump” suggests an object. A constant metal-on-metal grind suggests mechanical failure, requiring a technician.
HEADS UP Always check and secure all pockets before washing. Use a mesh laundry bag for small or delicate items with fasteners. The wash plate is not user-removable; do not try to pry it off.
