water is leaking from the bottom of the ice maker onto my counter

— asked by Morgan

DIAGNOSIS Internal water containment failure. The three most probable sources are an overfilled reservoir, a clogged drain hole, or a loose water line connection.

FIX 1. Check the external water reservoir. Do not fill past the ‘Max’ line. 2. Locate the drain hole at the bottom rear of the ice-making chamber. Use a pipe cleaner or soft brush to clear any debris. 3. With the unit unplugged, remove the rear service panel (if accessible) and check the connection where the silicone inlet tube meets the water pump. Secure any loose fittings.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The internal drain tube may be kinked or disconnected. This requires more detailed disassembly to inspect the tube running from the evaporator chamber to the drain pan.

HEADS UP Continuous leakage can cause electrical damage. Unplug the unit immediately upon discovering a leak and do not use until the source is identified and corrected.
