camera on the dream duo won't track my baby in the crib, it just stays in the home position

— asked by Taylor

Quick answer: The automatic tracking feature is either disabled or the camera cannot detect a defined 'baby zone' in the frame.

Diagnosis

The automatic tracking feature is either disabled or the camera cannot detect a defined 'baby zone' in the frame.

How to Fix It

Open the Owlet app. Select the camera view. Tap the Settings icon (gear). Navigate to 'Camera Settings'. Ensure 'Auto-Track' is toggled ON. In the same menu, select 'Set Baby Zone'. A green box overlay will appear on the live feed. Manually drag and resize this box to perfectly outline the crib mattress area. Tap 'Save'. The camera must detect high-contrast movement within this saved zone to initiate tracking.

If That Didn't Work

The tracking servo motor may be obstructed. Power off the camera. Visually inspect the 360-degree rotation base. Remove any fabric, cords, or debris physically blocking the base. Ensure the camera is placed on a perfectly level surface, not a slanted dresser. The tracking algorithm requires a clear, stable horizon to calculate pan and tilt.

Heads Up

Auto-track will not function during Night Vision mode or if the room is too dark. It requires standard definition (SD) video mode and a minimum of 15 lux ambient light to identify movement. Low-light conditions default the camera to a stationary monitoring state.
