Diagnosis
What you're hearing is almost certainly the normal, rapid clicking of the pressure cooker's internal relay or "pressure control board." This component is an electronic switch that cycles the heating element on and off to maintain a precise temperature and pressure once your target setting is reached. The clicking is the sound of that switch engaging and disengaging.
How to Fix It
This is not a fault, so no repair is needed. However, to confirm the noise is normal and not a sign of a problem:
- Ensure the inner pot is correctly seated and the sealing ring is clean and properly installed.
- Listen to the pattern: Normal clicking is rhythmic and occurs most frequently during the heating phase and while pressure is being maintained. It should stop when the cooker is in "Keep Warm" mode or off.
- Run a simple test: Cook a cup of water on the "Steam" setting for a few minutes. You should hear the same clicking as it comes to pressure, confirming it's part of the standard operation.
If That Didn't Work
If the clicking is irregular, very loud, metallic, accompanied by a burning smell, or happens when the cooker is supposedly off, there may be an issue.
- Unplug the unit immediately if you suspect a malfunction.
- Check for food debris or liquid under the inner pot or around the heating element in the base and clean thoroughly.
