Diagnosis
A grinding noise during high-speed spin indicates a failing tub bearing. The noise is the inner tub's shaft grinding against worn bearings. This model has a sealed bearing assembly.
How to Fix It
The entire outer tub and bearing assembly must be replaced. This is a major repair requiring disassembly of the washer: removing the top, front panel, tub, and drive components. The inner and outer tubs are replaced as a single unit.
If That Didn't Work
Verify the noise source. Remove the drum and inspect the spider arm for cracks. A cracked spider arm can cause similar catastrophic noise but is less common than bearing failure.
Heads Up
Continuing to run the washer with failed bearings will destroy the spider arm and inner tub. The repair cost often approaches the value of the machine.
