how do i properly store my wen portable generator for the winter?

— asked by Mike

Proper storage is key to avoiding startup issues next season. You'll want to prepare the fuel system.

  1. For short-term storage (30-60 days), add a fuel stabilizer to your gasoline, then fill the tank completely. A full tank reduces air inside, which slows fuel deterioration.
  2. Run the engine for 2 to 3 minutes to circulate the stabilized fuel through the carburetor.
  3. After running, turn the 3-in-1 switch to OFF. Close the vacuum relief valve on the fuel cap by turning it counterclockwise to the OFF position.
  4. Let the generator cool completely before covering it. Never place a cover on it while it's still warm.

If storing longer: Consider draining the fuel tank and carburetor completely to prevent varnish buildup. Also, check and change the oil if it's due.

Heads up: Always store the generator in a dry, well-ventilated place, away from any open flames or ignition sources, as fuel vapors are highly flammable.
