how do i turn off the microphone on the echo pop? i don't see a physical button for it

— asked by Jordan

Quick answer: The Pop uses a capacitive touch button, not a mechanical one. The microphone off/on control is the button on top with a microphone icon.

Diagnosis

The Pop uses a capacitive touch button, not a mechanical one. The microphone off/on control is the button on top with a microphone icon.

How to Fix It

  • Tap (do not press and hold) the Action button (the dot) on the top of the device.
  • A red light ring will appear, and Alexa will say "Microphone off." The microphone is now disabled.
  • To turn it back on, tap the same button again. The light will turn off.

If That Didn't Work

If tapping doesn't work, the capacitive sensor might be dirty. Unplug the device, wipe the top surface gently with a dry microfiber cloth, then try again.

Heads Up

When the microphone is off, you cannot use voice commands, but you can still play audio to it from your phone via Bluetooth. The physical button is the only way to disable the mic—you cannot do it via the Alexa app.
