Quick answer: Your "Preferred Speaker" or communication settings are misconfigured. By default, timers and alarms sound only on the device you set them on, but notifications can broadcast.

Diagnosis

Your "Preferred Speaker" or communication settings are misconfigured. By default, timers and alarms sound only on the device you set them on, but notifications can broadcast.

How to Fix It

  • Check the device you spoke to. Say, "Alexa, which device did you hear me on?" It will identify itself.
  • Ensure your devices have distinct names. In the Alexa app, go to Devices > Echo & Alexa, select each, and give them clear names like "Echo Pop - Kitchen."
  • When setting the timer, be specific: "Alexa, set a 10-minute timer on the Pop."

If That Didn't Work

Go to Devices > your Pop > Communications > Announcements. Ensure "Drop In & Announcements" is set to "This Device" and not "All Devices."

Heads Up

Timers and alarms are device-specific, but if you have an "Everywhere" speaker group selected as a default speaker, Alexa might get confused. Set your Pop as its own default speaker in Devices > your Pop > Sounds.
