how do you clean the inside of this thing? grease is splattered everywhere above the baskets and it's smoky.

— asked by Alex

DIAGNOSIS Smoke and splatter are caused by grease carbonizing on the upper heating elements and interior ceiling. This is a maintenance issue, not a malfunction.

FIX Perform a manual clean of the interior cavity. 1. Unplug and let cool. 2. Remove baskets and crisper plates. 3. Fill a spray bottle with a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water. 4. Spray the solution onto the upper heating elements and the stained interior surfaces. Let it sit for 10 minutes to loosen grease. 5. Wipe thoroughly with a non-abrasive sponge or cloth. Do not use steel wool or scouring pads. 6. For the non-removable crisper plates in the bottom, scrub with a nylon brush.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK For stubborn, baked-on grease, use a dedicated degreaser spray. Apply, wait, and wipe. Ensure no chemical drips onto the heating elements below.

HEADS UP Never immerse the main unit in water. Do not use oven cleaner, as it can damage the interior coating.
