i just got a gowise gw22956 and it smells like burning plastic the first time i used it, did i get a defective one?

That's likely the initial burn-off, not a defect. New appliances often have manufacturing residues that need to be burned away.

Fix: Here's the proper first-use setup:

1. Remove all packaging, stickers, and labels.
2. Wash the basket and crisper tray with hot, soapy water.
3. Wipe the inside and outside with a clean cloth.
4. Set the unit to 350°F and run it empty for about 5 minutes. This burns off the residue. A slight burning smell is expected and will dissipate.
