ice cubes are coming out really small and thin, like slush, not solid nuggets. how do i fix this?

— asked by Sam

DIAGNOSIS Incomplete freezing cycle. The most probable cause is water temperature above 77°F (25°C). Warm water cannot freeze properly in the short cycle time.

FIX Use pre-chilled or room temperature water, not warm tap water. Ensure the room ambient temperature is within the specified 60-100°F (15.5-37.8°C) range. Lower ambient temps improve performance.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The refrigeration system may be underperforming due to insufficient ventilation. Confirm there is at least 4 inches of clearance on all sides, especially the rear vent.

HEADS UP The first batch after a long idle period will often be slushy. Discard it. The second batch should produce proper nuggets if water temp and ventilation are correct.
