Diagnosis
This behavior is typically caused by "blind spots" in the LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) system. If the laser turret cannot accurately bounce signals off the floor or walls, the robot perceives a "ghost wall" or a void, causing it to steer clear of perfectly clean areas. This is often due to debris on the sensor, high-contrast flooring (like deep black rugs) that absorbs the laser, or mirrored surfaces that deflect the beam.
How to Fix It
Follow these steps to recalibrate the navigation system:
- Clean the LiDAR Turret: Power down the unit. Locate the rotating laser turret on top of the vacuum. Use a dry, lint-free microfiber cloth to wipe the clear plastic dome. If there is dust inside the turret, use a can of compressed air to gently blow out debris from the spinning lens window.
- Clear the Perimeter: Remove any low-profile obstacles or trailing cables near the missed patches that might be triggering a "virtual wall" response.
- Reset the Map: Open the SharkClean app, delete the current floor map, and run a new "Clean All" cycle. This forces the RV2820AE to re-index the room dimensions from scratch.
If That Didn't Work
Check for environmental interference:
- Lighting Conditions: While LiDAR works in the dark, extremely high-glare sunlight hitting a specific patch of floor can "blind" the sensor. Close curtains or run the vacuum at a different time of day.
- Surface Contrast: If the missed patches are dark black rugs or highly reflective polished marble, the laser may not be receiving a return signal. Try placing a physical boundary or manually directing the robot into those areas via the app.
- Sensor Check: Ensure the cliff sensors on the bottom are clean; if they detect a "drop" where none exists, the robot will avoid the area.
Heads Up
Never use liquid glass cleaners or chemical solvents on the LiDAR dome, as this can strip the protective coating and permanently degrade the laser's accuracy. Always use a dry cloth.
