it's making a loud grinding noise during the wash cycle, sounds like it's coming from the bottom.

Quick answer: That's the sound of the wash pump impeller chewing on something it shouldn't. A piece of glass, a bone, or a utensil has likely gotten past the filter and into the pump housing.

Diagnosis

That's the sound of the wash pump impeller chewing on something it shouldn't. A piece of glass, a bone, or a utensil has likely gotten past the filter and into the pump housing.

How to Fix It

Immediately stop the cycle. Remove the lower rack and take out the entire filter assembly (twist and lift). Shine a flashlight into the sump area—you might see the offender. Use needle-nose pliers to carefully remove any debris. Also, check the small, black fine filter for damage.

If That Didn't Work

If the noise persists after clearing debris, the wash pump impeller or motor bearings are damaged from the impact and the whole pump assembly (part #00654507) will need replacing.

Heads Up

Running it with this noise can destroy the pump. Always check the bottom of the tub for stray items before starting a cycle.
