my chefman 2 qt air fryer is smoking white smoke, is it broken?

— asked by Chloe

Yeah, this one's common. White smoke is usually normal, but you need to check why.

Diagnosis: It's likely from cooking greasy foods. Oil collects under the crisper plate and smokes, or it's just residue from first use.

Fix:

  1. Unplug the unit and let it cool completely.
  2. Pull out the basket and crisper plate.
  3. Wash the basket, crisper plate, and the inside of the air fryer thoroughly with hot, soapy water to remove grease.
  4. Make sure everything is completely dry before using again.

If That Didn't Work: If it was your first use, a plastic smell and some white smoke is normal. Run a 5-minute test cycle at 400°F with an empty basket to burn off manufacturing residues.

Heads Up: Dark smoke is a different problem—that means food is burning or there's a circuit issue. If you see dark smoke, unplug immediately, wait for smoke to clear, and check for burnt food.
