my k-mini coffee maker is blinking orange and won't brew anything, what's wrong?

— asked by Sam

DIAGNOSIS The orange blinking light is the descale alert. The machine's internal sensor has detected mineral buildup and has locked out brewing to protect the heating element.

FIX You must run a descaling cycle. Here's the fastest path:
1. Empty the water reservoir. Fill it with 16 oz of white vinegar or Keurig's official descaling solution.
2. Place a large mug on the drip tray. Without a K-Cup, run a brew cycle. Let it sit for 30 minutes.
3. Discard the vinegar, rinse the reservoir thoroughly, and refill with fresh water.
4. Run multiple water-only brew cycles (no K-Cup) until the vinegar smell is gone. The light will turn solid.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the light continues blinking after a proper descale, the sensor might be stuck. Unplug the machine for a full 2 minutes to perform a hard reset. This often clears the alert.

HEADS UP Do not ignore this light. Continuous use with scale will eventually lead to a clogged needle or a failed heating element, which is not user-serviceable.
