Diagnosis
The issue is that the lid's sealing ring or its groove is obstructed, or the lid is not correctly aligned with the pot's rim. A small piece of food debris, hardened starch, or a mispositioned sealing ring can prevent the lid from seating fully, creating a stuck feeling.
How to Fix It
- Ensure the pressure regulator is removed from the lid.
- Open the lid's quick-release safety valve (the small metal pin/lever) if it's engaged.
- Inspect the pot's rim and the lid's inner rim for any food particles or residue. Clean thoroughly with warm, soapy water.
- Remove the silicone sealing ring from the groove in the lid. Clean the ring and the groove itself, ensuring no grit remains.
- Re-seat the sealing ring perfectly in its groove, making sure it's not twisted or pinched.
- Place the lid on the pot, aligning the arrow on the lid handle directly with the lock/unlock symbol on the pot handle. You should feel it drop into place and hear a distinct click when properly aligned.
If That Didn't Work
Check that the lid's safety valve mechanism moves freely and isn't jammed. Inspect the lid's inner rim for any dents or damage. If the sealing ring is old, hardened, or has lost its elasticity, it may not compress properly; replace it with a genuine Prestige sealing ring for your 5L Popular model.

Never force the lid closed. If it doesn't close smoothly after cleaning and proper alignment, do not use the cooker. Forcing it can damage the locking mechanism and compromise the pressure safety systems.
