my silonn is so loud, it's making a loud grinding or buzzing noise when it's running

— asked by Alex

DIAGNOSIS A loud mechanical noise is almost always from the compressor or the fan. A grinding sound typically means the fan blade is hitting something or has a bad bearing.

FIX Check for fan obstruction first.

  1. Unplug the unit and move it to access the rear ventilation grille.
  2. Use a flashlight to look inside the grille. Look for any plastic packaging, twist ties, or debris that may have fallen in and is touching the fan blade.
  3. Use long-nose pliers or tweezers to carefully remove any foreign object.
  4. Plug it back in. The normal operating sound is a steady hum, not a grind.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the noise is a loud buzz from the front (near the evaporator), the water pump might be running dry or failing. Ensure the reservoir is adequately filled. If it persists with a full tank, the pump may need to be replaced.

HEADS UP Do not attempt to disassemble the unit to lubricate the fan or compressor. This voids the warranty and introduces contaminants. If the internal fan is damaged, contact Silonn support for a repair.
