The issue of "dry pads" on the Deebot X1 Omni usually stems from a failure in the water delivery chain between the Omni Station's clean water tank and the robot's internal reservoir. This is most commonly caused by an air lock in the pump system or a partial blockage in the water inlet valve located on the underside of the robot. When the robot docks, the station is supposed to pump water into the robot's internal tank; if this process is interrupted by a misalignment or a debris clog, the robot begins its cycle with a nearly empty reservoir, resulting in pads that are barely damp and merely smear dirt. To confirm this is a hardware delivery issue rather than a software glitch, check the "Water Tank" status in the Ecovacs Home app. If the app indicates the tank is full but the pads are dry, the issue is a blockage in the drip lines or a failed pump. If the app shows the tank is empty despite the station being full, the station is failing to pump water into the robot during the docking phase. You can also verify this by checking the mop pads immediately after the robot leaves the station for a "Mop" or "Auto" cycle; if they aren't saturated, the delivery system is compromised.
How to Fix It
Follow these precise steps to restore full water flow to your mop pads:
- Verify App Settings: Open the Ecovacs Home app, navigate to "Cleaning Settings," and ensure the "Water Flow" is set to "High." If it is set to "Low," the robot will restrict water output regardless of tank levels.
- Clear the Water Inlet: Power off the robot. Flip it over and locate the water inlet port where the robot connects to the station. Use a cotton swab dipped in isopropyl alcohol to clean the rubber seal and the small nozzle. Debris or mineral buildup here prevents a vacuum seal, stopping the station from pumping water into the robot.
- Purge Air Locks: If the pump is humming but no water is moving, you likely have an air lock. Fill the clean water tank to the maximum line. Manually lift the robot slightly off the docking pins and set it back down firmly three times in rapid succession. This often triggers the pump to prime itself.
- Deep Clean the Mop Pads: Remove the two microfiber pads. If they are saturated with old detergent or grime, they become hydrophobic and won't absorb water from the internal reservoir. Wash them in hot soapy water or replace them with new genuine Ecovacs pads.
- Reset the Station: Unplug the Omni Station from the wall outlet for 60 seconds. Plug it back in and initiate a "Mop Only" cycle to force a fresh water transfer.
If That Didn't Work
- Check for Clogged Filter: Inspect the small mesh filter located inside the clean water tank of the Omni Station. If you use tap water, calcium deposits can clog this screen. Remove the tank and use a soft brush or a needle to gently clear any white mineral buildup from the filter screen at the bottom of the tank.
- Inspect the Water Pump Sound: Place your ear near the base of the Omni Station when the robot is docking for a refill. You should hear a distinct, low-pitched humming sound for 10-20 seconds. If there is total silence, the internal pump motor has likely failed and the station requires professional repair or replacement.
- Perform a Factory Reset: Press and hold the reset button on the robot (usually located under the top cover) for 5 seconds. This clears any software bugs that may be preventing the robot from signaling the station to dispense water.
- Check the Mop Bracket: Ensure the plastic mop bracket is snapped firmly into the robot. If the bracket is loose or slightly warped, the water channels from the internal tank to the pads will be misaligned, causing water to leak internally rather than reaching the pads.

- Avoid Third-Party Detergents: Never use thick floor cleaners or bleach in the water tank. These create suds and residue that clog the micro-pumps and narrow tubing, leading to the exact "dry pad" issue described above. Use only official Ecovacs cleaning solution or distilled water.
- Use Distilled Water: If you live in a hard-water area, switch to distilled water. Mineral buildup (limescale) is the primary cause of pump failure in the X1 Omni series.
- Regular Pad Maintenance: Replace your mop pads every 3 months. Over time, the fibers flatten and lose their ability to hold moisture, which makes the robot feel like it isn't dispensing enough water.
- Dry the Base: Ensure the docking area is dry. If water pools around the charging pins, it can cause a short that prevents the "refill" command from triggering correctly.
