Diagnosis
The loud clicking noise is almost always caused by a physical obstruction being pinched in the crisping lid's hinge mechanism. This is a common issue with the Ninja Foodi 9-in-1 due to the tight seal required for pressure cooking. The noise is the hinge components forcing their way past the obstruction; it is a warning sign, not necessarily an indicator that the unit is already broken.
How to Fix It
To safely clear the obstruction:
- Fully open the crisping lid to its upright position.
- Visually inspect the entire hinge area on both sides. Use a flashlight to look for trapped food debris, the power cord, or—most commonly—a section of the silicone sealing ring (gasket) that has slipped out of its channel on the main pot.
- If you see debris, use a soft brush or cloth to remove it. If the gasket is misaligned, reseat it properly in its track around the entire rim of the pot.
- Before closing, ensure the cord is routed away from the lid's path. Slowly and gently lower the lid, listening and feeling for any resistance. It should close smoothly and quietly.
If That Didn't Work
If the clicking persists after a clear visual inspection, the hinge mechanism itself may have a damaged internal component, such as a worn spring or latch. First, try cleaning the hinge pivots with a dry cloth. If the problem continues, contact Ninja Customer Support for troubleshooting or to inquire about a hinge repair or replacement, as forcing it will lead to a complete failure.
Heads Up
Never force the crisping lid closed against resistance. Doing so can permanently bend the hinge arms or crack the plastic housing, which will compromise the pressure seal and safety of the appliance. Always perform a quick visual check of the hinge and gasket before closing the lid.
