The Roborock Q7 Max Plus utilizes an electronically controlled water pump system rather than a gravity-fed drip. When the mop attachment remains dry, it is typically due to a failure in the "wetting" cycle where the pump fails to push water through the internal conduits into the mopping cloth. This is often caused by air locks (bubbles) trapped in the pump line after the tank has run completely dry, or mineral buildup from hard water blocking the microscopic nozzles at the base of the tank. Another common culprit is a failure in the communication between the robot's motherboard and the electronic water tank. If the tank is not seated with a perfect vacuum seal, the pump may cycle, but the water will either leak internally or fail to reach the cloth. You can confirm a pump failure by placing the robot on a dry surface, starting a "Mop Only" run, and listening for a faint, high-pitched humming sound near the rear of the chassis; if you hear nothing, the pump is either disabled in settings or mechanically failed.
How to Fix It
Follow these precise steps to restore water flow to your mopping system:
- Open the Roborock App, navigate to the cleaning settings for your current map, and locate the "Water Level" toggle. Ensure it is set to "High." If it was already on High, toggle it to "Low" and then back to "High" to reset the command to the pump.
- Remove the water tank and empty it completely. Fill it with distilled water (avoid tap water for this test) to ensure no mineral deposits are causing the blockage.
- Inspect the small rubber gasket and the output nozzle at the bottom of the tank. Use a cotton swab dipped in white vinegar to clean the nozzle opening, removing any lime scale or debris.
- Perform a "Prime" of the pump: Fill the tank, seat it firmly into the robot until you hear a distinct click, and then gently shake the robot horizontally while it is powered on. This helps dislodge air bubbles trapped in the pump head.
- Pre-soak the mopping cloth. The Q7 Max Plus does not "saturate" the cloth from scratch; it maintains moisture. Thoroughly wet the microfiber cloth with water and wring it out before attaching it to the mop bracket.
- Start a "Deep Mopping" cycle in the app. Let the robot run for at least 10 minutes, as it can take several minutes for the pump to push air out of the lines before water reaches the cloth.
If That Didn't Work
- Manual Pump Priming: If the pump is air-locked, use a small syringe (without the needle) to gently force a small amount of water directly into the intake valve on the robot's chassis where the tank connects. This forces the air bubble out and allows the pump to grab water.
- Check for Tank Leaks: Inspect the tank for hairline cracks, especially near the electronic contact points. If the tank isn't airtight, the pump cannot create the necessary pressure to push water through the nozzles.
- Hard Reset: Perform a soft reset by holding the power button and the home button simultaneously for 5 seconds. This can clear software glitches that prevent the pump from triggering during the mopping sequence.
- Replace the Water Tank: If the pump humming is audible but no water emerges after priming, the internal electronic valve in the tank assembly has likely failed. Replace the tank assembly (Part No. Q7MAX-WT) to restore functionality.
Heads Up
- Avoid Chemical Cleaners: Never use floor cleaners, soaps, or bleach in the tank. These create suds and films that clog the electronic pump's narrow apertures, leading to permanent water flow failure.
- Distilled Water Only: To prevent calcium buildup (scaling) in the nozzles, use distilled water instead of tap water.
- Never Leave the Tank Full: If you are not mopping for more than 48 hours, empty the tank. Stagnant water can lead to algae growth inside the pump lines, which will block water flow.
- Cloth Maintenance: Always wash the mopping cloth after every 2-3 uses. A saturated, dirty cloth can actually repel water or prevent the pump from distributing moisture evenly.
