DIAGNOSIS The detergent dispenser latch mechanism is gummed up with hardened detergent or debris, preventing it from springing open.
FIX
- Manually open the dispenser door and thoroughly scrub the latch hinge and spring area with an old toothbrush and hot water. Remove all crusty residue.
- Ensure you are using the correct detergent type. Pods can leave a gel-like film that gums up the mechanism if they get damp before dispensing.
- Run a cycle with the dispenser empty and a cup of vinegar on the top rack to help dissolve any remaining buildup.
IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The dispenser door's plastic latch may be physically broken. You'll need to replace the entire detergent cup assembly, which is a common repair part.
HEADS UP Always close the dispenser door with a dry hand and ensure it clicks shut fully. Moisture from wet hands can introduce water that causes detergent to clump and jam the mechanism prematurely.
