Diagnosis
A high-pitched noise from the floor head almost always means something is interfering with the brush roll—a foreign object, a damaged bearing, or a worn drive belt.
How to Fix It
Safety first: turn the vacuum off. 1) Flip it over and remove the brush roll cover by pressing the red buttons. 2) Pull out the brush roll and inspect it thoroughly. Look for anything wrapped around it or stuck in the bristles, like wire, string, or plastic. 3) Clear out the entire brush chamber, feeling for small items like coins or screws. 4) Manually spin the brush roll with your hand. Listen and feel for any grinding or catching. If it spins smoothly, the issue might be the drive belt or gears in the head.
IF THAT DIDN’T WORK Inspect the brush roll’s bearings on each end. If they’re visibly cracked or feel gritty when spun, the brush roll assembly needs replacing. Also, look at the square socket on the brush roll that connects to the motor drive in the head. If it’s stripped or cracked, it’ll slip and make a grinding noise.
