Diagnosis
That burnt smell is usually overheated dust and debris caught in the filter system or, less commonly, the motor filter. The vacuum is working too hard because airflow is restricted.
How to Fix It
Do a complete filter maintenance cycle. 1) Empty the dust bin. 2) Remove the HEPA filter from the top of the bin. Tap it firmly against your trash can to dislodge fine dust—don’t wash it unless it’s the washable type (check your model). 3) Locate the pre-motor filter, usually a smaller foam filter near where the bin attaches. Rinse this foam filter under cool water until the water runs clear, then let it air dry for at least 24 hours COMPLETELY before putting it back. 4) While everything’s out, check the air path inside the vacuum for any clogs. Reassemble only when all parts are bone dry.
IF THAT DIDN’T WORK If the smell persists after a full filter clean-and-dry, and you’re sure there are no blockages, the odor might be coming from the motor itself or overheated electronics. Contact Tineco support, as this could indicate an internal issue.
Heads Up
Never run the vacuum with a damp or wet filter. That will damage the motor and definitely cause a bad smell. The foam filter needs a full day to dry, no shortcuts.
