Diagnosis
Your Electactic 130 Can Cooler is frosting up due to excess warm, moist air getting inside the unit. This is almost always caused by a compromised door seal (gasket), a door that isn't closing properly, or the unit operating in an environment with high temperature and/or humidity.
How to Fix It
First, inspect and fix the door seal. Clean the gasket with mild soapy water and ensure it's pliable. Check for gaps by closing the door on a dollar bill; if it slips out easily, the seal is bad. To realign the door:
- Use a Phillips-head screwdriver to slightly loosen the hinge screws on the top of the unit.
- Gently reposition the door until it sits square and closes flush with the cabinet.
- Retighten the screws while holding the door in the correct position.
If That Didn't Work
If the seal is intact and the door is aligned, environmental factors are the culprit. Frequent frosting occurs if the room's ambient temperature is consistently above 90°F (32°C) or the humidity is very high. Move the cooler to a cooler, drier location if possible. For a permanent setup, using a room dehumidifier nearby can significantly reduce moisture ingress. Also, verify the internal temperature setting is not set excessively low; aim for a beverage-appropriate range of 35-40°F (2-4°C).
Heads Up
A small amount of frost on the rear interior wall is normal for this cooler type, but heavy frost or ice on shelves/cans indicates a problem. Never use sharp objects to chip away ice, as you can puncture the cooling system. Always unplug the unit and let frost melt naturally before cleaning or attempting repairs.
