Diagnosis
You need to temporarily disable alerts and use the right materials to avoid scratches or water damage to the microphone/speaker grille.
How to Fix It
Use a soft, dry cloth and disable notifications first.
- In the Google Home app, go to your doorbell's settings > Notifications. Tap 'Pause notifications' and set it for 30 minutes.
- Use a clean, dry microfiber cloth (like for glasses) to gently wipe the lens and the faceplate. Don't press hard.
- For stuck-on dirt, slightly dampen part of the cloth with water only—no cleaners, alcohol, or abrasives. Wipe gently and immediately dry with the other part of the cloth.
If That Didn't Work
For fingerprints or smudges on the lens that affect video quality, use a lens cleaning pen (designed for cameras) or a cloth with a tiny drop of lens cleaner. Avoid the circular speaker/mic grille below the button.
Heads Up
Never spray anything directly onto the doorbell. Liquid can seep into the grille and damage the internal speaker. Always apply cleaner to the cloth, not the device. The plastic faceplate scratches easily, so no paper towels or rough fabrics.
