Diagnosis
Pink biofilm (often Serratia marcescens bacteria) is common in the internal water lines and mold if you use tap water and don't clean often enough.
How to Fix It
Use a cleaning solution of 1 tablespoon of bleach to 1 gallon of water. Fill the reservoir, run a full cycle, then immediately discard that ice. Run two more full cycles with fresh water only to flush. Wipe the ice basket and interior with the same diluted bleach solution, then rinse.
If That Didn't Work
For stubborn buildup, you must manually clean the distribution tray. Unplug, open the lid, remove the ice basket, and locate the small holes where water sprays onto the cold plate. Use a toothpick or pipe cleaner dipped in vinegar to clear each hole.
Heads Up
Never use abrasive pads or harsh chemicals other than bleach or vinegar. After a bleach clean, the flushing cycles are mandatory—never consume ice from a bleach cleaning cycle.
