Diagnosis
Product buildup (styling product residue, dirt, oils) is burning on the plates. This reduces glide, causes sticking, and creates that burnt smell.
How to Fix It
Clean the plates while they are completely cool and unplugged.
1. Dampen a soft cloth or paper towel with rubbing alcohol (isopropyl alcohol).
2. Gently rub the ceramic plates to dissolve the residue. Do not use abrasive pads or scraping tools.
3. For stubborn buildup, apply a small amount of alcohol, let it sit for a minute, then wipe clean.
4. Finish by wiping with a damp water cloth to remove any alcohol residue.
If That Didn't Work
If the plates are scratched or the coating is chipped, the burnt material may be trapped in the imperfections. Deep cleaning won't restore a damaged surface.
Heads Up
Never submerge the iron in water or run it under a tap. Do not use nail polish remover (acetone) or other harsh solvents, as they can permanently damage the ceramic coating.
