Diagnosis
A very faint hum can be normal—it's the electrical current powering the heating elements. A loud, noticeable buzz or crackle is not normal and indicates an electrical fault.
How to Fix It
Diagnose the sound's source and severity.
1. Plug the iron into a different outlet in a different room. Sometimes faulty wiring or grounding in an outlet can cause a buzz.
2. Turn the temperature dial. Does the buzz change pitch or volume with different heat settings? If so, the issue is in the variable control circuitry.
3. Listen closely. Is the sound coming from the handle (wiring/cord issue) or directly from the plates/heating area (element issue)?
If That Didn't Work
A persistent, audible buzzing or crackling means there's likely a loose wire or a failing component inside creating an arc. This is a potential shock and fire hazard.
Heads Up
If the buzzing is accompanied by any smell of burning plastic, a flashing light, or if you feel a slight vibration/tickle in your hand, unplug it immediately and stop use. Do not ignore electrical noises.
