instant pot duo won’t seal, steam just keeps coming out the valve the whole time.

— asked by Riley

DIAGNOSIS Steam escaping continuously from the valve indicates the float valve is not up or the sealing ring is improperly seated, dirty, or damaged.

FIX 1. Confirm the steam release handle is fully turned to ‘Sealing’, not ‘Venting’. 2. Check the position of the silver float valve next to the release handle. It must be in the ‘down’ position before cooking starts. 3. Remove the clear silicone sealing ring from the lid. 4. Wash it thoroughly, checking for food debris, tears, or permanent deformities. 5. Reinstall the ring, ensuring it is fully seated in the lid’s groove all the way around. 6. Close the lid, ensuring it is fully locked.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The lid may not be aligned correctly. Open and close the lid again, listening for a distinct ‘click’ of the locking mechanism. The arrows on the lid and pot base must align.

HEADS UP The sealing ring absorbs food odors. Replace it annually or if it becomes loose, cracked, or no longer springs back to shape.
