Diagnosis
The grinding noise followed by four beeps and a solid red light on the Eufy RoboVac 11S indicates a "Brush Jam" error. This occurs when the internal motor attempts to rotate the main rolling brush, but encounters physical resistance that exceeds the motor's torque limit. The "grinding" sound is actually the motor gears slipping or the brush bristles rubbing violently against the internal plastic housing because the brush has become skewed or stalled. This is most commonly caused by "hair tourniquets"—long strands of hair, pet fur, or carpet fibers that wrap tightly around the brush axle and the end caps. Over time, these wraps migrate toward the bearings, creating a friction lock. In some cases, a hard object like a coin, small toy, or a pebble has wedged itself between the brush and the vacuum chassis, preventing the brush from completing a full rotation. You can confirm this by attempting to rotate the brush manually while the unit is off; if it feels stiff or won't budge, the jam is mechanical.
How to Fix It
To resolve the jam and clear the error code, follow these precise steps:
- Power down the unit completely. Flip the RoboVac over and toggle the main power switch (located on the bottom) to the "OFF" position to prevent accidental motor activation.
- Locate the brush guard (the plastic frame holding the roller in place). Pull the two plastic release tabs outward to unlock the guard and lift it away from the chassis.
- Grasp the rolling brush and lift it out of the vacuum body. Note the orientation of the brush to ensure it seats correctly later.
- Inspect the ends of the brush. You will likely find dense clumps of hair wrapped around the plastic end caps. Use a pair of sharp scissors or the cleaning tool provided with the unit to cut through the hair longitudinally.
- Crucially, slide the end caps off the brush axle if they are removable on your specific batch. Hair often hides inside the bearing housing, which causes the grinding noise even if the rest of the brush looks clean.
- Clear the brush compartment of any debris, such as pebbles or clumps of dust, using a vacuum or a canned air duster.
- Slide the brush back into the housing, ensuring it is seated flush against the drive gear. Snap the brush guard back into place until you hear a distinct click.
- Toggle the power switch back to "ON" and press the start button to reset the error state.
If That Didn't Work
- Check the Side Brushes: A jam in the spinning side brushes can sometimes trigger a similar error if the motor is under too much strain. Remove the Phillips head screw holding the side brush in place, pull the brush out, and clear any hair wrapped around the metal pin.
- Inspect the Front Caster Wheel: If the front swivel wheel is jammed with hair, the vacuum may struggle to move forward, causing the main brush to "dig in" to the carpet and trigger a jam error. Pop the caster wheel out of its socket and remove any debris.
- Verify Brush Alignment: If the brush was reinstalled slightly off-center, it will rub against the plastic housing, creating a grinding noise. Remove the brush and re-insert it, ensuring it is perfectly parallel to the chassis.
- Check for Gearbox Failure: If the brush is completely clear but the grinding noise persists, the internal plastic gears in the motor assembly may have stripped. If you see plastic shavings inside the brush compartment, the motor assembly likely needs replacement.

- Weekly Maintenance: To prevent the four-beep error, clear the brush of hair every 7-10 days. Once hair reaches the bearings, it can permanently deform the plastic axle.
- Avoid Wet Debris: Never run the 11S over damp carpets or spills. Moisture causes dust to clump into a "cement-like" substance around the brush axle, which leads to motor burnout.
- Brush Replacement: If the bristles are frayed or the axle is bent, replace the brush assembly. Using a worn-out brush reduces suction and puts more strain on the motor.
- Clear the Path: Regularly check for "stringy" items like shoelaces or ribbon on your floors, as these are the primary culprits for catastrophic brush jams.
