This behavior is typically caused by an incomplete "Initial Cleansing Brew" sequence, which is a mandatory safety and priming step for the K-Mini's internal pump. Because the K-Mini uses a small, high-pressure pump to move water from the reservoir through the heating element, the system can occasionally suffer from an "air lock." If the pump tries to engage but finds an air pocket instead of water, it will heat the internal coil (causing the pulsing light) but fail to create the vacuum necessary to pull water into the chamber. You can confirm this is the issue if the machine sounds like it is humming or vibrating slightly but no water is exiting the nozzle. This often happens if the reservoir wasn't filled to the exact minimum line or if the handle wasn't fully locked into the "down" position, preventing the needle from piercing the internal valve. If the light continues to pulse indefinitely without ever turning solid or dispensing, the machine is stuck in a priming loop.
How to Fix It
To resolve the air lock and complete the mandatory setup, perform a hard-reset cleansing cycle. Follow these exact steps:
- Clear the chamber: Remove any K-Cup pods currently loaded in the machine. The cleansing brew must be done with an empty pod holder to ensure maximum water flow and to clear any factory debris.
- Fill the reservoir: Fill the water tank to the 12oz mark (slightly above the minimum 6oz line). Using distilled water for this first cycle can help prevent mineral buildup, but filtered water is preferred for the first prime.
- Seal the unit: Lift the handle completely, then press it down firmly. You should feel a tactile click; if the handle is even 2mm above the locked position, the pump will not engage.
- Initiate the cycle: Press the Brew button once. The light will illuminate solid, then begin to pulse. This indicates the heating element is reaching the required temperature.
- Wait for the transition: Do not press the button again or lift the handle. Wait approximately 2 to 3 minutes. The light will stop pulsing and turn solid once the internal pressure is reached.
- Dispense: Water should now flow freely into your mug. Let the entire 6-12oz of water run through the system to fully purge the internal lines.
If That Didn't Work
- The "Air Bubble" Force-Prime: If the pump is humming but no water moves, there is a stubborn air bubble in the intake. Fill the reservoir to the maximum line. While the machine is pulsing, gently lift the handle up and down 3-4 times rapidly. This can sometimes "jolt" the pump into grabbing the water column.
- Needle Obstruction Check: Use a straightened paperclip to gently poke into the exit needle (the one that punctures the bottom of the K-Cup). Even in new machines, a small piece of plastic flashing from the manufacturing process can block the narrow aperture, preventing water from flowing even when the pump is working.
- Power Cycle Reset: Unplug the K-Mini from the wall outlet for exactly 60 seconds. While unplugged, hold the Brew button down for 10 seconds to discharge any remaining electricity in the capacitors. Plug it back in and attempt the cleansing brew again.
- Reservoir Seat Inspection: Ensure the water reservoir is seated perfectly flush against the base. If there is a gap of even a fraction of a millimeter, the pump will suck air instead of water, leading to the pulsing light without flow.

- Avoid Under-filling: Never let the water level drop below the 6oz minimum mark. The K-Mini does not have a low-water sensor; if it runs dry, it will suck air into the pump, and you will have to repeat the priming process.
- Scale Prevention: To avoid future "no-flow" issues, descale the machine every 3 months using a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water.
- Handle Pressure: Always apply firm downward pressure when closing the handle. A loose seal is the number one cause of leaking or failure to brew on the first attempt.
- Pod Compatibility: Only use official K-Cup pods or compatible pods. Third-party pods with oversized plastic lids can prevent the handle from locking fully, triggering the "pulse but no flow" symptom.
