my ninja crispi pro is blowing smoke and smells like burning plastic, is it broken?

— asked by Taylor

Initial smoke/burning smell is often residual manufacturing oils or packaging materials on first use. If it persists, it's a problem.

FIX:

  1. Immediately turn off and unplug the appliance. Let it cool fully.
  2. Remove the drawer, wire rack, and crisper plate. Wash them thoroughly in warm, soapy water to remove any protective coatings. Dry completely.
  3. Wipe the interior cooking chamber, heating element area, and fan with a damp cloth. Any visible debris or oil must be removed.
  4. Reassemble. Run the appliance empty at 400°F for 20 minutes. Smoke/smell should dissipate. Ensure your kitchen is well-ventilated.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK: Inspect for non-oven-safe materials: a plastic tag left on the rack, melted utensil, or food packaging (like a parchment liner touching the heating element).

HEADS UP: Continuous smoke or a strong electrical burning smell indicates a serious fault. Unplug immediately, do not use, and contact service.
