Immediately stop use. A burning smell indicates a clog or filter issue causing the motor to overwork.
- First, unplug the vacuum.
- Empty the dust cup completely.
- Remove and inspect the pre-motor filter. If it's dirty or damp, it must be rinsed with cold water and air-dried for a full 24 hours before reuse. Do not run the vacuum with a damp filter.
- Check the post-motor HEPA filter for excessive dirt.
- Inspect the hose, wand, and all attachments for blockages that could restrict airflow.
If that didn't work, and the smell persists with clean, dry filters and clear airways, the motor itself may be overheating. Discontinue use and contact Shark service.
Heads up: Never run the vacuum with wet filters. Always allow the full 24-hour dry time.
