Diagnosis
The temperature sensor in the fresh food section is faulty or the air ducts are directing too much cold air directly onto that shelf. The top shelf is often directly in the path of the cold air vent from the freezer.
How to Fix It
1. First, recalibrate the temperature settings. Set the fresh food control to a warmer setting (e.g., move from 5 to 3).
2. Ensure no items are blocking the fresh food air vents, located on the rear wall.
3. Relocate dairy and other sensitive items to the middle or lower shelves, away from direct airflow.
4. Monitor for 24 hours with a standalone thermometer placed on the top shelf.
If That Didn't Work
The fresh food temperature sensor, often located behind the control housing or on the rear wall, may be providing an incorrect reading to the main control board. This requires a multimeter test for proper resistance at various temperatures.
Heads Up
Avoid storing items directly against the back wall of the fridge. This can block airflow, cause localized freezing, and trick the sensor into thinking the compartment is warmer than it is.
