Diagnosis
The damper door between the freezer and fresh food section has failed or is obstructed. Cold air is not transferring. Confirm by checking if the vents in the rear of the fridge compartment are blowing cold air.
How to Fix It
1. Open both fresh food doors.
2. Remove the top interior shelf to access the control housing between the doors.
3. Look for the damper door opening near the temperature controls.
4. Manually move the damper flap. It should open and close freely.
5. Clear any food packaging or ice blocking the door or vents.
6. Set both fridge and freezer controls to a median setting, like 5 and 0°F, and monitor for 24 hours.
If That Didn't Work
The damper motor assembly itself may have failed. The damper motor is located behind the control housing. You can test for power at the motor connector. No power indicates a main control board issue.
Heads Up
Ensure the freezer is not over-packed. Blocking the evaporator fan or the duct opening in the freezer will starve the fridge of cold air, even with a functioning damper.
