Diagnosis
While a burnt-out bulb is the most common cause, the failure could also stem from a corroded socket, a faulty light switch on the control panel, or a broken wire harness connecting the oven cavity to the main control board. Because the control panel is functioning, the issue is likely isolated to the lighting circuit rather than a total power failure.
How to Fix It
Replace the oven bulb with a genuine 40-watt halogen replacement (Part #12001557). Follow these steps for a safe replacement:
- Ensure the oven is completely cool and the power is off.
- Locate the light assembly, usually positioned in the upper rear or side of the oven cavity.
- Gently press the bulb holder clip inward and rotate it counterclockwise to unlock it from the housing.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Insert the new bulb firmly into the socket. Crucial: Do not touch the glass of the new halogen bulb with your bare fingers; use a clean cloth or gloves.
- Rotate the holder clockwise and lock the clip back into place.
If That Didn't Work
If a new bulb fails to light, perform these checks:
- Test the Socket: Use a multimeter to check for 120V AC at the socket pins while the light switch is toggled "On." If there is no voltage, the problem lies further up the line.
- Inspect the Switch: Test the continuity of the light switch on the control panel. A failed switch will prevent power from reaching the bulb.
- Check Wiring: Inspect the wiring harness for any signs of heat damage or melted insulation, which can occur near the oven walls.

Halogen bulbs operate at extremely high temperatures. Touching the glass with bare skin leaves oil residues that create "hot spots," causing the glass to stress and the bulb to shatter or burn out prematurely. Always clean the glass with rubbing alcohol if accidentally touched before installation.
