Diagnosis
This is often the ‘Judder Effect’ from the TV’s native 60Hz panel struggling with 24 or 30 frames-per-second content. The default Auto Motion Plus settings can also be a culprit.
How to Fix It
Go to Settings > Picture > Expert Settings. Find ‘Auto Motion Plus’. Set it to ‘Custom’. You’ll see two sliders: Blur Reduction and Judder Reduction. 1) Set Judder Reduction to ‘0’. This is usually the main source of the unnatural, soap-opera-like smoothness. 2) You can leave Blur Reduction low (1 or 2) if you want, but start with both at 0 and see if the natural look fixes your issue.
If That Didn't Work
Make sure you’re in a proper picture mode. ‘Movie’ or ‘Filmmaker Mode’ will have motion processing disabled by default. Avoid ‘Dynamic’, ‘Standard’, or ‘Sports’ modes if you’re sensitive to this, as they often have aggressive smoothing turned on.
Heads Up
No setting will make a 60Hz panel perfect for high-speed content. Some judder on panning shots is inherent. The goal is to minimize the artificial processing, not eliminate all motion blur.
