the plastic housing on the top of my ninja air fryer gets extremely hot to the touch, is this normal or dangerous

— asked by Sam

DIAGNOSIS This is normal operation. The top section houses the heating element and the high-speed fan motor. It's designed to get very hot during use—that's how it cooks.

FIX There is no fix because it's not broken. Your action is managing the environment.

  • Ensure the air fryer has a minimum of 5 inches of clearance on all sides, especially the top and back. Do not place it under cabinets or in a tight nook.
  • Always use the unit on a stable, heat-resistant countertop.
  • Do not touch the top or back of the unit during or immediately after cooking. Use the cool-touch handle on the drawer only.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK If the heat seems excessive (smelling of hot plastic, not just warmth) or is causing nearby items to melt/discolor, unplug it and contact Ninja. But general, significant heat from the top housing is expected.

HEADS UP Keep children and pets away from the appliance while in use and during the cool-down period. The warning in about surface heat is serious. Let it cool completely before storing.
