Diagnosis
The Eufy RoboVac 11S utilizes an infrared (IR) signal to communicate between the remote and the vacuum. Unlike Bluetooth or Wi-Fi models, this is a "line-of-sight" connection. If the remote isn't working, the root cause is typically a break in this IR path, a disabled receiver on the chassis, or a "frozen" logic board within the vacuum that has stopped listening for external commands. Because the 11S is a super-slim model, the IR receiver is tucked low into the bumper, making it highly susceptible to signal blockage from rugs or debris. To confirm if the issue is the remote or the vacuum, you can perform a "camera test." Since human eyes cannot see infrared light, point the remote at your smartphone's front-facing camera and press any button. If the remote is functioning, you will see a flickering purple or white light on your phone screen. If no light appears, the remote's internal circuitry or the battery contacts are the culprit. If the light is visible but the vacuum doesn't move, the problem lies with the vacuum's receiver or the main power state.
How to Fix It
Follow these steps in exact order to restore connectivity between your remote and the RoboVac 11S:
- Verify the Main Power Switch: Flip the RoboVac over. Locate the master power switch (the toggle switch near the battery compartment). Ensure it is flipped to the "I" (ON) position. If it was already on, toggle it to "O" (OFF) for 30 seconds and then back to "I" to hard-reset the logic board.
- Clear the IR Path: Ensure there are no obstacles between the remote and the front bumper of the vacuum. Move the RoboVac to a flat, hard surface. If the vacuum is on a high-pile rug, the IR receiver may be partially submerged, blocking the signal.
- Perform a Contact Clean: Remove the batteries from the remote. Use a cotton swab dipped in 90% isopropyl alcohol to clean the metal contact tabs in the battery compartment. Even new batteries can fail to connect if there is a thin layer of oxidation or factory residue on the terminals.
- Check Battery Orientation: Ensure the batteries are seated firmly. The 11S remote requires two AAA batteries. Ensure the positive (+) and negative (-) ends are aligned exactly with the markings in the tray; a loose battery can cause intermittent signal failure.
- Proximity Test: Stand within 3 feet (1 meter) of the vacuum and press the "Auto" button. If it triggers from this distance but not from 10 feet, your IR signal strength is degraded, likely due to low-voltage batteries.
If That Didn't Work
- Deep Charge Cycle: If the vacuum's battery is critically low (below 10%), the unit may enter a power-save mode where it ignores IR commands to preserve energy for the charging circuit. Manually place the vacuum onto the Charging Dock, ensuring the two gold charging pins on the bottom of the vacuum make a flush connection with the dock. Leave it to charge for a full 6 hours without interruption.
- Interference Check: Strong infrared sources, such as direct sunlight hitting the vacuum's bumper or certain high-intensity LED lighting, can "wash out" the IR receiver. Move the vacuum to a shaded area of the room and attempt to use the remote again.
- Remote Replacement: If the camera test mentioned in the diagnosis failed, the remote's internal crystal oscillator has likely failed. Since the 11S remote is not a programmable device, it cannot be "re-paired" via software; you will need to replace the remote unit entirely.
- Receiver Inspection: Inspect the front bumper for any accumulated dust, hair, or stickers that may be covering the small, dark plastic window where the IR receiver is located. Use a microfiber cloth to wipe the front perimeter of the device clean.

- Battery Quality: Always use high-quality alkaline batteries. Cheap zinc-carbon batteries often lack the consistent voltage required to trigger the IR diode, leading to a "dead" remote feeling.
- Avoid Power-On/Off Cycling: Do not frequently toggle the main power switch while the vacuum is actively running; this can cause a glitch in the firmware that requires a full battery drain to reset.
- Storage Tip: If you do not plan to use the vacuum for more than two weeks, remove the batteries from the remote to prevent acid leakage, which will permanently destroy the remote's circuit board.
