the robot keeps getting lost and says 'positioning failed' in the middle of a clean.

Quick answer: The LIDAR sensor on top is dirty or obstructed, or there's inconsistent lighting (like very bright direct sunlight) confusing its maps.

Diagnosis

The LIDAR sensor on top is dirty or obstructed, or there's inconsistent lighting (like very bright direct sunlight) confusing its maps.

How to Fix It

Clean the LIDAR turret. Power off the robot. Gently spin the clear plastic dome on top and wipe it with a dry microfiber cloth. Ensure no tall, thin objects (like floor lamp poles) are near the dock, as they can create a 'blind spot'.

If That Didn't Work

Delete and remake your map. In the app, go to Map Management, delete the current map, and start a full cleaning cycle with all doors open and consistent lighting. Don't interact with it until it finishes and saves the new map.

Heads Up

Highly reflective surfaces (large mirrors, glossy black floors) can also scatter LIDAR signals. If you have them, the robot may always be slightly unstable in those areas.
