Diagnosis

The Bissell CleanView Swivel Pet 2252 is a dry-vacuum system, not a wet-vac. If liquid is leaking from the bottom of the unit onto your carpet, it means the vacuum has sucked up water or wet debris, which has bypassed the filtration system and settled in the lowest point of the chassis. Because this model utilizes a multi-cyclonic dirt tank, liquids do not simply sit in the canister; they often seep through the cyclone assembly and leak through the motor housing or the brush roll assembly. This occurs because the 2252 is not designed to handle fluids. When liquid enters the vacuum, it disrupts the airflow and can cause the rubber gaskets—specifically the main seal between the dirt tank and the vacuum body—to fail or slip. Furthermore, if the liquid is "dirty," it creates a sludge that clogs the pre-motor filters, forcing the air (and the liquid) to find an alternative exit path, which usually results in leakage through the bottom seams of the plastic housing or the swivel neck joint.

How to Fix It

To stop the leaking and prevent permanent motor damage, you must perform a deep dry-out and seal inspection. Follow these exact steps:

1. Immediately unplug the unit from the wall outlet to prevent a short circuit.
2. Press the dirt tank release button and remove the canister entirely. Empty all contents into a trash bin.
3. Unscrew the cyclone assembly from the top of the tank. Remove the foam and felt filters. If these are damp, they must be washed with mild soap and air-dried for at least 24 hours. Do not reinstall them while damp, as this will kill the motor.
4. Inspect the large round rubber gasket located at the rim of the dirt tank. Use a damp cloth to wipe away any grit or debris that prevents a flush seal. If the gasket is pinched or twisted, gently pull it back into its circular groove using a plastic pry tool or your fingernail.
5. Turn the vacuum upside down and inspect the bottom plate. Use a microfiber cloth to soak up any standing liquid pooled near the brush roll housing.
6. Check the brush roll for wet hair or debris. Remove the bottom plate screws if necessary to clear out liquid that has pooled in the motor's drip tray.
7. Reassemble the tank, ensuring you hear a distinct "click" when the canister locks back into the main body.
8. Run the vacuum on a dry area of carpet for 5-10 minutes to ensure all internal moisture has evaporated from the airflow path.

If That Didn't Work

• Replace the Filter Set: If the liquid was oily or chemically based, the foam filters may have shrunk or lost their structural integrity, allowing liquid to bypass the filter and leak through the motor. Purchase a genuine Bissell replacement filter kit specifically for the 2252 model.
• Inspect the Hose Connection: Remove the flexible hose from the intake port. Check for small punctures or tears in the plastic ribbing. If liquid is leaking from the bottom, it may actually be dripping down the outside of the hose and pooling at the base, creating the illusion of a chassis leak.
