Diagnosis
This phenomenon is known as "micro-bubbles" or "air entrainment." When you install a new iSpring T32M pressurized storage tank, the bladder is initially empty of water and filled with compressed air. Once the system is pressurized and water fills the tank, the interaction between the high-pressure air and the incoming water creates tiny pockets of air that remain suspended in the liquid. Because these bubbles are microscopic, they give the water a milky, cloudy, or white appearance. This is a mechanical occurrence, not a chemical contamination. You can confirm this is air and not a mineral or chemical issue by filling a clear glass and letting it sit on the counter for 60 to 120 seconds. If the cloudiness clears from the bottom up, it is simply trapped air. If the water remains cloudy or settles as a powder at the bottom, you may be dealing with sediment or a filter breach. In 99% of new iSpring T32M installations, this is a temporary state that resolves as the tank reaches an equilibrium of air and water.
How to Fix It
To clear the air from your iSpring T32M tank and restore crystal-clear water, you must perform a full system purge. Follow these steps precisely:
- Shut off the cold water supply valve leading into the RO system to prevent new water from entering the membrane while you purge.
- Open the RO faucet (the dedicated drinking water tap) and let the water run completely until the flow stops. This empties the T32M tank.
- Close the RO faucet.
- Slowly open the main cold water supply valve. This allows the tank to refill slowly, which helps minimize the turbulence that creates bubbles.
- Once the tank is full (usually 2-4 hours depending on your flow rate), open the RO faucet again.
- Run the faucet for 3 to 5 continuous gallons. This forces the air trapped in the bladder and the connecting 1/4" LLDPE tubing out of the system.
- If the water is still cloudy, repeat the "drain and refill" process two more times. This ensures that any air pockets trapped in the top of the T32M tank are displaced by water.
If That Didn't Work
If the water remains cloudy after three full purge cycles, consider these alternatives:
- Check the O-rings on your quick-connect fittings. If an O-ring is pinched or improperly seated at the tank connection, the system can suck air into the line via a Venturi effect, causing a constant stream of bubbles regardless of how much you purge.
- Inspect the pre-filter housings. If you didn't tighten the housings sufficiently or if a gasket is missing, air can leak into the system during the filtration process. Ensure all housings are tightened with the provided wrench.
- Verify the tank pressure. Use a tire pressure gauge on the T32M's air valve (located on the bottom or side). If the tank was shipped with too much pressure (above 10-12 PSI when empty), it can cause violent water displacement and increased aeration. Bleed the air valve slightly to bring it down to 7-8 PSI before refilling with water.
- Examine the RO membrane seal. If the membrane is not seated deeply enough into the housing, air can bypass the seal, leading to persistent cloudiness in the output.
Heads Up
- Never use a compressor to refill the T32M tank; always use a manual bicycle pump or a small handheld pump to avoid rupturing the internal butyl bladder.
- Do not mistake "cloudy water" for "white scale." If the water feels slippery or leaves a white crust on the faucet, you have a hardness issue, not an air issue.
- The T32M tank should be kept upright. Laying the tank on its side during installation can trap air in the upper neck, making the purging process take significantly longer.
- Expect a slight drop in water pressure for the first few days as the system stabilizes and the air-to-water ratio in the bladder reaches a steady state.
