DIAGNOSIS Frequent, random disconnections are typically caused by Wi-Fi signal instability or the device overheating and rebooting itself.

FIX First, rule out Wi-Fi. Install the Ring Wi-Fi Analyzer tool (in the Ring app under Menu > Help > Check Your Wi-Fi).

  • Run the test from the camera's location. Your RSSI signal strength should be better than -60. If it's worse, you need a Wi-Fi extender like a Ring Chime Pro or a mesh network node.
  • Ensure your router's firmware is updated.
  • In the Ring app, for the device, go to Device Health > Network. Check that it's connected to the 2.4GHz network.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK The unit may be overheating. Ensure it's not installed in direct, all-day sunlight without any shade, and that the vents on the back housing are not clogged with debris or insect nests.

HEADS UP Do not rely on breaker resets as a long-term fix. Constant power cycling can damage the internal electronics. If Wi-Fi is strong and placement is cool, the unit itself may be defective and require replacement.
