how to disable the dhcp server on my netgear orbi so i can use my own?

Disable the DHCP server feature in the router's LAN settings. Ensure your alternate DHCP server is configured and running first.

  1. Access the router admin page: On a connected device, open a browser, go to orbilogin.com, and log in.
  2. Navigate to ADVANCED > Setup > LAN Setup.
  3. Clear the checkbox for Use Router as DHCP Server.
  4. Click the Apply button. The router will no longer assign IP addresses.

IF THAT DIDN'T WORK / POST-DISABLE CONFIGURATION:

  • If you disable this service and no other DHCP server is active on your network, you must set all your computers' IP addresses manually so they can access the router and the Internet.
  • Verify your new DHCP server is on the same subnet and is assigning the Orbi router's LAN IP address as the default gateway for clients.

HEADS UP: By default, the Orbi router acts as the DHCP server, assigning IP, DNS server, and default gateway addresses to all LAN devices. The assigned default gateway address is the LAN address of the Orbi router itself.
