The robot's onboard computer detects this voltage drop and triggers an emergency shutdown or a "Return to Base" command, even if the battery indicator showed a full charge moments prior.
To confirm if the battery is truly dead or if there is a charging fault, observe the battery light during the first 5 minutes of a cleaning cycle. If the light drops from solid green to amber or flashing red almost immediately after leaving the Home Base, the battery can no longer sustain the required voltage under load. If the robot dies while still on the charging dock, the issue is likely a failure in the Home Base power adapter or the charging contact pins rather than the battery itself.
How to Fix It
To resolve this, you must first rule out a "surface charge" issue and then perform a hard reset of the power cycle before considering a replacement. Follow these exact steps:
- Deep Charge Cycle: Place the Roomba 694 on the Home Base. Ensure the metal charging contacts on the bottom of the robot are clean (wipe them with a dry microfiber cloth). Leave the unit to charge for a full 24 hours without interrupting it, even if the light turns green early. This helps balance the cells.
- Hard Reboot: While the robot is on the Home Base, press and hold the CLEAN button for 20 seconds. Release the button, wait 5 seconds, and then press it again. This resets the internal battery management system (BMS) and recalibrates the remaining runtime estimate.

If That Didn't Work

- Check for Motor Obstructions: A jammed side brush or a tangled main brush roll creates massive electrical resistance. This forces the motors to draw more current, draining the battery exponentially faster. Remove the brush roll and check for hair wrapped tightly around the axle ends.
- Clean the Drive Wheels: Inspect the two main drive wheels. If they are clogged with debris or "flat-spotting," the robot struggles to move, causing the battery to deplete rapidly. Pull the wheels out of their sockets and clear all hair.
- Inspect Charging Contacts: Use a pencil eraser to scrub the charging contacts on the bottom of the Roomba and the pins on the dock. Oxidation creates a high-resistance connection, meaning the battery never actually reaches 100% charge despite what the indicator light says.
- Test a Different Outlet: Plug the Home Base into a different wall outlet without a surge protector. Some high-sensitivity surge protectors can interfere with the specific voltage delivery required by the Roomba charger.
