just got this blender and it's making a loud grinding noise but not blending, like the blade isn't catching.

— asked by Morgan

Quick answer: The drive coupler isn't engaged. The blade assembly shaft isn't locking into the motor base, so it's just spinning freely.

Diagnosis

The drive coupler isn't engaged. The blade assembly shaft isn't locking into the motor base, so it's just spinning freely.

How to Fix It

This is a pitcher seating issue.

  • Take the pitcher completely off the base.
  • Look at the black plastic drive socket on the bottom of the pitcher. Align its flat sides with the corresponding shape on the motor base's drive coupler.
  • Set the pitcher down firmly and twist it clockwise until you feel/hear a distinct click. It must be fully locked.

If That Didn't Work

Check for packaging debris. A small clear plastic shipping spacer is sometimes left in the drive socket. Remove it if present.

Heads Up

Always twist to lock before selecting any function. The 'Pulse' button will sometimes work if it's not fully locked, but any programmed cycle will just make that grinding noise.
