the 'soup' function doesn't get my soup hot, it's just warm after 6 minutes. is it broken?

Quick answer: It's working, but the 'Hot Soup' program is designed to heat, not boil. It relies on friction heat from prolonged blending of a liquid base.

Diagnosis

It's working, but the 'Hot Soup' program is designed to heat, not boil. It relies on friction heat from prolonged blending of a liquid base.

How to Fix It

Maximize efficiency.

  • Start with hot or boiling liquid (broth, water). Do not start with cold liquid.
  • Fill the pitcher to the minimum line (approx. 40 oz). Too little volume won't generate enough friction heat.
  • Cut all solid ingredients (vegetables, cooked meat) into small, 1-inch pieces before adding.

If That Didn't Work

Run a second cycle. It's safe to run the 'Hot Soup' program twice in succession. The second cycle will bring it from warm to properly hot.

Heads Up

Never use the 'Hot Soup' function for dairy-based or starchy soups (like potato or cream-based). They can scorch on the bottom and are prone to eruptive boiling. Use it for brothy or puréed vegetable soups only.
