Diagnosis
The lid lock switch or sensor is failing, so the machine thinks the lid is open and won't start for safety. This is a very common failure point on this model.
How to Fix It
You need to bypass or replace the faulty lid lock assembly.
1. Unplug the washer.
2. Open the lid and look at the front right corner of the door opening. You'll see a small plastic latch.
3. Press the latch down with a flathead screwdriver and hold it—this manually engages the lock.
4. While holding it, plug the machine back in and try to start a cycle. If it starts, the electronic latch assembly is definitely bad.
5. Order part #W10857278 (the lid lock/latch assembly). Replacement involves removing the top panel and a few connectors.
If That Didn't Work
If manually engaging the latch doesn't work, the issue might be with the main control board not receiving the signal. Check the wiring harness connection to the lid lock for any obvious damage or corrosion.
Heads Up
Don't just run the machine with the latch manually held forever. The lock also prevents the lid from opening during a spin cycle. Replacing the part is necessary for safe operation.
