Diagnosis
'Unb' means 'unbalanced load.' The washer's sensors detect the tub spinning unevenly and will pause or stop to prevent damage.
How to Fix It
Manually redistribute the load and check for installation issues. This is usually user-fixable.
1. Pause or stop the cycle and open the lid.
2. Manually redistribute the wet clothes around the agitator so they're even. Avoid washing a single heavy item (like a rug) by itself.
3. Close the lid and press 'Start' to resume. It will re-drain and re-spin.
4. If this happens frequently, check that the washer is perfectly level. Use a bubble level on the top. Adjust the front leveling legs by turning them.
5. Ensure all four feet are firmly on the floor and the machine doesn't rock. Tighten the locknuts on the legs after adjusting.
If That Didn't Work
If the machine is level and loads are balanced but you still get 'Unb', the suspension rods or springs that stabilize the tub may be worn or damaged. This requires removing the cabinet to inspect—a more involved repair.
Heads Up
Never try to bypass an 'Unb' error by holding the lid lock or forcing it to spin. The imbalance can physically break the spider arm or suspension, leading to a very expensive repair.
