Diagnosis
When the main floor head (the brush bar area) is picking up debris but the hose and attachments are not, you have a "localized blockage." This means the vacuum's motor and the primary cyclone assembly are functioning correctly, but the airflow is being obstructed somewhere between the bin intake and the hose nozzle. Because the floor head has its own direct path to the bin, it can still function even if the secondary hose path is completely sealed off. This most commonly happens when a large piece of debris—such as a clump of pet hair, a child's toy, or a thick piece of cardboard—gets lodged at the "elbow" or the connection point where the hose meets the main body. You can confirm this by turning the machine on and placing your hand over the hose opening; if you feel zero suction, the blockage is internal. If you feel slight suction that disappears when you attach a tool, the blockage is likely inside the wand or the tool itself.
How to Fix It
To clear the obstruction and restore full suction to your attachments, follow these precise steps:
- Power down the machine and unplug it from the wall outlet to prevent accidental activation.
- Locate the release cap on the handle assembly. Lift the cap and slide the entire wand and hose assembly out of the main chassis.
- Press the release button located at the junction where the wand connects to the flexible hose. Pull them apart. Look through the length of the wand toward a light source; if you cannot see daylight, use a broom handle or a coat hanger to gently push the obstruction out.
- Remove the clear bin by pressing the red bin release button. This provides access to the internal hose port.
- Locate the hose connection tab at the base of the machine. Press the locking tab firmly and pull the hose completely out of the main body.
- Inspect the "neck" of the hose (the rigid plastic part that enters the machine). This is the most common failure point where debris bunches up. Use a flashlight to inspect the interior ribs of the hose.
- If a clog is found, use a long, flexible plumbing snake or a stiff wire to push the debris toward the open end of the hose. Avoid using sharp knives that could puncture the rubberized lining of the hose.
- Reassemble the components: slide the hose back into the chassis until it clicks, snap the bin back into place, and re-insert the wand into the handle assembly.
If That Didn't Work
- Check for a "hidden" tear in the hose. Inspect the entire length of the flexible hose for small slits or punctures, especially near the handle. Even a 1/4-inch tear can cause a massive drop in suction. If you find a hole, use high-quality electrical tape or a specialized vacuum repair kit to seal it airtight.
- Inspect the tool attachment itself. If you are using the crevice tool or the dusting brush, debris often gets jammed in the narrow neck of the tool rather than the hose. Try testing the suction with the hose open (no tool attached) to isolate the problem.
- Examine the intake valve. Inside the main body where the hose connects, there is a plastic flap/valve. If this valve is stuck in the closed position due to a buildup of fine dust or a foreign object, air cannot pass through to the motor. Use a can of compressed air to blow out the valve area.
- Check the filter for "saturation." While the floor head might work with a dirty filter, the hose requires higher static pressure. If the pre-motor filter is clogged with fine powder or pet dander, it can restrict the airflow enough that the hose feels lifeless. Wash the filter with cold water and let it dry for 24 hours.

- Never use a sharp object like a screwdriver or a knife to clear clogs, as the interior lining of the Ball Animal 2 hose is prone to piercing, which permanently ruins the suction.
- Avoid vacuuming wet materials or damp carpets; moisture causes dust to turn into a "paste" inside the hose, which hardens and creates a permanent blockage that is nearly impossible to remove without replacing the hose.
- Periodically check the hose connection point for wear and tear. If the plastic locking tab is cracked, the hose will not seal against the chassis, resulting in a significant loss of suction.
- When cleaning the bin, ensure the seals are seated correctly. A misaligned bin can leak air, reducing the vacuum's ability to pull debris through the long hose path.
